Lion dance workshop, Museum of Liverpool

When – 17th February 2026. 11am, 1pm, 2pm

Join the team as they explain the history and tradition of the Chinese lion while children learn how to work the life size puppets in pairs, learn the rhythm of the traditional lion dance drum and the special lion dance steps to bring the lions to life!

Sessions take place at 11am, 1 and 2pm and last 45 minutes each.

Tickets cost £3.50 per child and children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Suitable for children aged 6+

Chinese New Year craft at the museum, Museum of Liverpool

When – 19th February 2026, 11am-12noon and 1.30-4pm

Celebrate Lunar New Year 2026, the year of the horse, at our ‘make and take’ family craft session. Join us to embrace Liverpool’s unique connections with China and the city’s Chinese community. 

This is a free drop in session aimed towards children aged 3+ and their families but all are welcome.

Make it! Craft Workshop, The Atkinson, Southport

When – 19th February 2026, 11am – 3pmm free drop-in

Linny Venables is a visual artist based in Liverpool working in sculpture, installation, curation and facilitation. Linny experiments with kiln-formed warm glass processes as a form of therapy, slumping, extruding and manipulating glass into fluid, playful shapes. Linny’s exhibition Sweet Factory is currently on display in the Art Gallery.

Join Linny in The Atkinson’s Art Box for a ‘Sweet Factory’ themed arts and crafts workshop suitable for all the family. There’s something for all ages, with all materials supplied and all for free!

Ukrainian Day, The Atkinson, Southport

When – 21st February 2026

Free. Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Ukrainian culture with a captivating day of events at The Atkinson. There will be a coffee morning, a choir performance, craft workshops and traditional dress alongside a community exhibition where you can find out more about Ukrainian culture.

Horrible histories – The concert, Liverpool Empire

When – 13th – 14th February 2026.

When William Shakespeare is asked to create the greatest show on earth, he’s no idea how much trouble he’ll get from monstrous monarchs like King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria! Things hot up when Death appears – and now Boudica and Cleopatra want to take over! Can things get any worse? Of course they can!

Story Fest at Wonder Arts, St Helens

When – 14th-21st February 2026.

Includes lots of family shows and workshops for you to enjoy throughout the week. Includes storytelling, theatre and workshops.

Aquarium keeper experience, World museum

When – 17th, 19th & 20th February 2026.

In this behind the scenes immersive experience you will get the chance to feed the animals and learn how the team look after the equipment and water chemistry in the aquarium.

This experience is only available to participants aged 6 years and older.

The experience can be booked for a group of up to ten people. There is a minimum ratio of 3 children to 1 adult.

Reopening of level 4 at World Museum

When – from 14th February 2026

The dinosaur and natural history gallery is reopening as “wild world”

Big Art special. Walker Art Gallery

When – 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 21st, 22nd February 2026. 3:15pm

Spark your creativity and have fun with our fabulous friendly facilitators in Big Art! Big Art is a very special place for young children and their grown ups to discover arty things together.

Goldilocks and the three bears at The Storybarn

When – 16th February 2026

Join the Bookworm Players this February half term for their retelling of the classic fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Expect music, songs, storytelling and lots of fun.

Meet the author – Chanté Timothy at The Reader

When – 20th February 2026

Join illustrator Chanté Timothy (Daddy Do My Hair; Hey You!) for a Q&A followed by a STEM inspired workshop based on her brand new, bright and bold full colour graphic novel series Supa Nova.

Chanté is excited to meet youngsters, answer questions and sign books (a copy of Supa Nova included with ticket). In the workshop, we’ll make our very own CHOMP out of slime!

Ready, steady, play! Eureka! Science and Discovery

When – 14th – 22nd February 2026.

Follow Jack on an unforgettable rags-to-riches adventure as he swaps the family cow for a handful of magical beans… much to his mum’s horror! Lunar New Year family day, Bluecoat

When – 20th February 2026

Bring along the whole family and enjoy an afternoon of dance and craft activities.

Join Pei Yee Tong and artists from Movema for interactive dance and movement sessions inspired by the Year of the Horse.

Free or donations welcome, booking is required for the dance and movement workshops but there are free, drop in creative activities in the galleries from 1-4pm

Liverpool City Centre Lunar New Year celebrations

When – 21st – 22nd February 2026

Liverpool will burst into life as the city centre transforms into a spectacular celebration of Chinese New Year. Expect dazzling parades, vibrant performances, traditional music, and stunning displays of colour and culture, all bringing the streets alive with excitement. Join thousands of visitors and immerse yourself in the magic of one of Liverpool’s most iconic annual events!

Main stage on 21st and 22nd is Great George Square where there are performance throughout the afternoon of the 21st and 22nd February. There are also circus workshops between 12pm – 2pm on the 21st.

A Squash and a squeeze, Everyman Liverpool

When – 16th – 21st February 2026

Once upon a time, a little old lady lived all by herself in her cosy cottage, but she wasn’t happy – her house felt just too small. Whatever could she do? Will the wise old man’s solution of bringing in a flappy, scratchy, greedy, noisy crowd of farmyard animals work?

Making waves at Tate Liverpool

When – 14th – 22nd February 2026.

Jump feet first into our Learning Space and create multi-coloured replicas of your favourite marine life, including fish, crabs and coral. Play with print stamping blocks and collage to recreate intricate marine patterns and textures. Using our easy-to-follow templates, make a 3-D model of your sea creature and deep dive into our pick ‘n’ mix recycled craft box to add finishing touches to personalise your marine animal.

These activities are suitable for children aged 4-12 years old.

Tiger takeover at Knowsley Safari

When – 14th – 22nd February 2026

Visitors will learn more about this endangered species and how we can help protect the large cats in their native habitat.

Family Festival, BOXPARK Liverpool

When – 15th February 2026.

Brilliant food deals all afternoon alongside great music, kids’ arts and crafts classes, free face painting and mini games for the family to enjoy. Come down for sunshine, laughs, games and great scran every Sunday with our family friendly events.

Poetry pathway at Speke Hall

When – 16th – 22nd February 2026

Enjoy a self-led children’s poetry trail in the Orchard.

February half term at Royal Albert Docks

When – 14th – 21st February 2026

Chinese Dragon installation on 14th February, located on either side of Salthouse Bridge.

Chinese Dragon parade – 14th February approximately 3pm, Starting in the city centre and ending at the Inner Quay. Includes street theatre and stilt walkers.

Free Chinese New Year arts and crafts workshops – 16th – 20th February. Workshops will take place in PANAM, Revolution, and The Discovery Zone at The Beatles Story. All workshops are walk-in and children must be accompanied by an adult. 

Year of the Horse Dock Shorts – 15th – 22nd February 2026, 5-10pm. Celebrate the Year of the Horse with a special Dock Shorts animation, projected onto the façade of the Maritime Museum and best enjoyed from the inner quay.

Fiesta of fire, Inner Quay on the 15th at 6pm & 7pm and on the 21st at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. Experience a breathtaking 15-minute fire show projected onto the façade of the Maritime Museum, with freestyle performances from eight fire artists around the inner quay, set to an electrifying soundtrack by local drumming group Wirral Drummers.

Neon Glow Party – February Half Term at Southport Market

When – 20th February 2026

Southport Market is transforming into a full UV wonderland for our Neon Glow Party – a family-friendly rave packed with colour, music, and high-energy fun.

Free, Lightport, Lord Street Southport

When – 14th- 16th February 2026.

Lightport is a unique sound and light installation that will take over a 400m long stretch of Lord Street in the centre of Southport. 

Split into four distinct zones, the best experience is to walk through these zones in order, starting at Mermaid Gardens and ending at Town Hall Gardens (outside the Atkinson).

There is no time limit, but we expect most audiences to spend 30-60 mins in the experience.

There is no significant food and drink offer as part of the event.
