February half-term is just around the corner, have you made plans yet? I’ve put together this guide to February half term Cheshire (and slightly beyond) for 2026. Sports Day Scarecrow festival, Tatton Park
When – 14th February – 1st March 2026
Let’s get physical at the gardens and farm this February half-term with a team of sporty scarecrows. There’ll be rowing and throwing, curling and serving, kickflips, backflips, high kicks, and wickets.
So get your shin pads on, tighten your black belt, and step up to the plate at Tatton’s annual scarecrow festival!
Also meet Aunty Mary and the miller and hear them tell their tales at weekends down at the Farm.

Pancake Weekend at the Farm, Tatton Park
When – 21st – 22nd February 2026.
Discover more about where your pancake ingredients come from.
Learn about the chickens that will have laid your eggs, move into the Mill to learn about the flour you need, and then see the fresh milk straight from the shippon.
You will be able to see how we make pancakes and we have taster sessions at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm, each taster session will finish with a have a go pancake flipping competition.

Family snowdrop trail at Ness Botanic gardens
When – 7th February – 2nd March 2026
Explore the gardens to discover all the beautiful types of snowdrops we have growing at Ness.
There is plenty for all the family to see.
The trail will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Snowdrop family workshop, Ness Botanic gardens
When – 18th February 2026, 10.30am – 12pm and 1pm – 2.30pm
Head into the Coach House classroom to complete a snowdrop craft you can take home with you. The activities are designed for children aged 5 and above. The cost of this event is £5 per child, plus admission to Ness Botanic Gardens.

Junior farmers – growing strawberries at Kenyon Hall Farm

Little ones can follow a book-themed trail through the Mill, finishing in the Fourth Floor Play Space, where hours of fun await. Enjoy soft play, giant board games and lively puppet shows.
Other highlights include storytelling sessions, illustration workshops and a fancy-dress competition. Come along and let your imagination run free.

Hop into the wild family trail, Quarry Bank Mill

The National Trust is celebrating the release of Disney and Pixar’s “Hoppers”, in Cinemas 6 March.
Discover the ‘Hop into the wild’ family trail, with storytelling and outdoor play. If you’re a family (with children aged 6-11), come and enjoy the great outdoors, guided by cutouts of the “Hoppers” gang.

Ranger story time, Chester Zoo
When – Weekends and school holidays from 17th January to 15th March 2026.
Join us in Joseph Banks Room for a calming sensory story told through puppetry in the heart of the zoo – perfect for little listeners and big imaginations.
Meet Juni, a tiny tree fairy with a big adventure ahead. You’ll become part of Juni’s story as you join in with interactive storytelling, and bring the woodland to life around you.
Each session lasts 15-20 mins. 2 stories per hour from 1:10pm – 3:30pm

Children’s Ghost Walk, Chester city centre
When – 17th February 2026. 5:30 – 7pm
Join Tour Guide Ann Coward for a family friendly Children’s Ghost Tour around Chester. The walk will take approximately an hour and a half. The cost is £12 per adult with two children FREE per adult.

February half term at Lyme Park
When – 14th – 22nd February 2026.
Pick up a walking trail (£1) from the kiosk to spot the signs of spring with red deer, highland cows, and other nature to look out for and endless puddles to splash in.
Free family trail in the house. Dress up in a pinny, mob cap or white gloves and explore the house, helping along the way. Set the Dining Room table for dinner, clean the Grand Stairs and imagine what it was like to be a servant in the Edwardian golden age or head to the dressing room transform into a member of the family and surprise the servants early.

Destination space, Catalyst

2026 will see the launch of Artemis II, the first crewed mission back around the Moon. What will this look like for us? Could we go beyond the Moon to Mars? What does the planet smell like? Find out the answers to these questions, hear about the UK’s latest plans for space exploration and watch us launch a rocket in this action packed science show.
Shows will run twice a day at 12:30pm and again at 3:00pm, daily from 14th to 22nd February
Tickets cost £2.75 per person in addition to the normal admission charge and can be booked in reception on arrival.

Geology rocks – Weekend workshops, Catalyst
When – 14th – 22nd Feb 2026.
Let’s study rocks! Come and be a Geologist in this hands-on workshop. Make your own rock, extract salt crystals from rock salt and create a volcano in this fun, family activity.
Workshops last approximately 45 minutes and will run twice a day at 11:30am and again at 2:00pm.
Tickets for the workshop cost £2.75 per person in addition to the normal admission price and are bookable on arrival in reception.

Wandering Wolves, Little Moreton Hall
When – 11th February – 1st November 2026.
See if you can spot the Moreton family crest on your wander around the hall. The crest shows a wolf as they were a symbol of valour and guardianship. Some of the mischievous wolves have thrown on disguises and escaped the crests and cleverly hidden themselves away. See how many wolves you can spot when you explore Little Moreton Hall.

Room on the Broom Trail at Delamere Forest

£4 per trail pack from the visitor centre. This is a 1 mile pram-friendly route with brightly coloured boards with activities for kids.

Museum of the Moon at Chester Cathedral
When – 12th February – 15th March 2026
Measuring six metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.
The installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones. Each venue also programmes their own series of lunar inspired events beneath the moon.

The very hungry caterpillar, Storyhouse

Phantoms at the priory, Norton Priory

‘Phantoms at the Priory’ is Norton Priory’s latest art installation. This installation allows visitors to come face to face with some of the characters who have shaped the 900 year history of this remarkable place.
Meet an Abbott, take a selfie with a Canon, and see a kneeling Knight. Outside, see the Gardener at work, tending the vegetable plots. And there are a few smaller surprise to discover as well.
