Family walks North West

We love a family walk and have enjoyed many across North West England. This page will serve as a completed guide to all the family walks North West that are on the website. I hope that it will make it easy for you to find your next family walk. If you’re looking for a Family days out North West England then head here although some of the walks below are full days out too.

Most of the walks and guides on my website focus on a specific area but I do have a guide to all the Forestry England Room on the Broom Trails in the North West which start in late January 2026 and run throughout this year.

Family walks Cheshire

Cheshire is a great place for family walks and I have written many of our favourite walks up for you to enjoy too.

National Trust walks in Cheshire

Here in Cheshire we have a good number of National Trust including Tatton park.

Quarry Bank is a fantastic day out in Cheshire with lots of walks possible.

Family walks Manchester

Greater Manchester is great for family walks. You can’t beat a park or National Trust for family walks so I have guides to both.

Family walks Liverpool

I haven’t written many walks up in Merseyside yet but I can recommend Speke Hall and Formby which are both National Trusts.

We also love walking around The Dream St Helens.

Family walks Lancashire

There are so many great walks in Lancashire that are great for kids.

Pennington flash country park is probably my favourite due to the amazing adventure playground.

Haigh Woodland Park is another lovely park and playground.

This is closely followed by Pendle sculpture trail as I love a sculpture trail and this is a great one for families but be prepared for a short, sharp climb at the beginning of the trail.

We also love exploring Martin Mere WWT (although this isn’t a free walk).

Fairhaven Lake is also a fantastic place for a family walk.

Family walks Lake District and Cumbria

The Lake District is one of our favourite places for family walks. There are walks for all abilities.

Forest walks Lake District

If you are looking for a woodland walk in the Lakes then these are my favourites.

Grizedale forest walks – There’s a great play area, regular Julia Donaldson trails and sculptures too.

Whinlatter forest walks – There is a play trail here, close to the car park and almost a mile long. There are slides, water play, pebble play, climbing frames and so much more. There are Gruffalo and friends sculptures and lots of walking trails too.

There are other smaller forests to explore too including Dodds wood near Keswick.

Seasonal family walks North West England

Throughout the seasons there are some great family trails that are set up across the region.

In the spring lots of places open their gates for us to appreciate the snowdrops. Find all the Snowdrop walks North West here.

In the summer many farms have maze’s for you to enjoy. These included:
