Waterfront Hotel Southport review

If you’re looking for a nice hotel to stay in central to all of the great attractions in Southport then you can’t go wrong with waterfront hotel. I recently stayed with my own family so this is my Waterfront Hotel Southport review.

Waterfront hotel is located right on the waterfront in the heart of Southport. It’s a great location for families visiting the seaside town. It is a 2 minute walk from Silcocks Funland and the start of King’s Gardens and a 15 minutes walk from Pleasureland, Splash World and Viking Golf. It’s also just a 20 minutes walk along the promenade or through King’s Gardens to Victoria Park where the British Musical Fireworks are held annually. You are just 1 street back from the shopping area too.

The hotel has free parking underneath which is accessed from Lower Promenade. You just need to put your registration number into the touch screen device in reception and then you can forget about the car for the duration of your stay.

There is free WiFi available for guests which is always appreciated. There is a fitness suite within the hotel and you can pay £10 per person to use the pool and leisure facilities at Victoria Leisure and Fitness across the road. Here you will find 3 pools, sauna, heated beds, spa and 3 gym areas.

There is a welcoming seating area in reception as well as a bar/restaurant with fantastic views over Southport Marine Lake. There were lots of sailboats on the lake to watch on the weekend of our visit. Check in was quick and easy with welcoming staff.

We stayed in 2 superior double rooms on the top floor (5th) during our stay. There are two small lifts and you need to use your key card to access them which felt secure. Our kids loved the lift doors with fun designs like rubber ducks, donuts and Ferris Wheels. It was the weekend of the British Musical Fireworks so all the family rooms were booked up. We had amazing views over the lake from both our rooms.

The rooms were well equipped with everything we needed. There is a large TV with plenty of choice channels (Freeview) including some kids TV like cBeebies.

There is a kettle and small coffee machine in each room with plenty of choice of tea and coffee. There was also camille tea and hot chocolate sachets and a few biscuits too.

There is plenty of storage space in the wardrobe and lots of drawers. There is a small desk space with a lamp and also a mirror above it so it could be used as a dressing table. There are two comfy chairs and side tables by the window which was great for watching the sailing and playing cards games with the kids whilst we relaxed before our evening at the fireworks.

There is a safe, hairdryer, iron and ironing board too. Everything that you need to make your stay comfortable.

The bathroom is a great size with a shower over the bath. The water pressure was good and the water was hot. There is a little selection of really nice toiletries in the bathroom too.

We had a great nights sleep. The hotel was peaceful, the beds comfy and the blackout curtains did their job well. There is a control panel for heating and air conditioning so you can get your room the perfect temperature for you. There are also plenty of sockets for charging your phone etc.

On the Sunday we stayed, breakfast was served between 8 and 11 am. When we checked in we did have to pre-book what time we wanted breakfast for.

The breakfast is self service in the restaurant/bar. There is a great selection of hot and cold options. You’ll find loads of small boxes of different cereals, granola and Weetabix, fruits such as dried and fresh like pineapple, watermelon, melon, apples, pears and oranges. There is also a selection of cheese and cold meats. There is plain yogurt and a selection of nuts and dried fruits to top your yoghurt or cereal.

There is a tea and coffee self serve section as well as a juice bar with orange, pineapple and cranberry juice. There are also two toast sections with white or brown bread and a selection of individual pots of jam, Marmite and Nutella.

The hot food included baked beans, sausage, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, gash browns, scrambled and fried eggs.

We all had a good breakfast which set us up for another day exploring Southport. Check out is by 11am and there is a box in reception to leave your room keys for express checkout.

They do have family rooms at Waterfront Hotel which have 2 double beds which means you’ll all get a comfy nights sleep.
