Chinese new year Liverpool 2025 events
Liverpool City Centre Lunar New Year celebrations
When – 2nd February 2025
Symbolic Chinese lanterns will adorn the city, buildings will be lit up red, the dragon, lion and unicorn will parade the streets and the stage will return to Great George Square to host a programme of live performances.
There will also be plenty of Chinese food to sample from the many food stalls, art workshops with make-and-do activities as well as street theatre, storytelling and the popular funfair.

Chinese New Year at Eureka!
When – 25th – 26th January 2025.
Celebrate the Year of the Snake with vibrant workshops, captivating performances, and interactive activities! From calligraphy and crafts to thrilling lion dances and musical showcases, enjoy a weekend filled with culture, creativity, and fun for all ages!

Lion dance workshop, Museum of Liverpool
When – 19th February 2025.
Join the team as they explain the history and tradition of the Chinese lion while children learn how to work the life size puppets in pairs, learn the rhythm of the traditional lion dance drum and the special lion dance steps to bring the lions to life!
Sessions take place at 11am, 1 and 2pm and last 45 minutes each.
Tickets cost £3 per child and children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Lion dance performance, Museum of Liverpool
When – 23rd February 2025
We are inviting all our visitors to celebrate Liverpool’s Chinese heritage with Hung Gar Kung Fu School as they return to the museum to perform the fabulous Lion dance for the Year of the Snake.
The lion symbolizes power, wisdom, and superiority. The lion dance is performed to bring good fortune for the coming year and chase away evil spirits.
Performances take place in the museum atrium at 1, 2 and 3pm and are free for all to enjoy.

Chinese New Year craft at the museum, Museum of Liverpool
When – 1st, 8th and 22nd February 2025
‘Join in and make’ sessions take place between 11am and 12noon and also between 1pm and 4pm on 1, 8 and 22 February.

Crafting the Lunar New Year, Museum of Liverpool
When – 23rd February 2025
Lunar New Year festivities with story telling, crafts, and fei chun writing (bright red colour with black Chinese calligraphy).
Crafts and calligraphy run from 12.30 and story telling sessions start at:

Luna New Year at Lady Lever Art Gallery
When – 15th February 2025.
fun day of festivities for the Year of the snake will include the following:
- Find out all about the lunar new year and the legend of the Zzodiac Race with Billy Hui, presenter of BBC Merseyside’s Orient Express.
- Watch beautiful dances in traditional dress from the Wirral Chinese Cultural Association dance group
- Make a Chinese New Year card to wish happiness and prosperity to your friends and family for the new year in our craft activity, 1-4pm

Chinese new year Manchester 2025 events
Lunar new year at Manchester Museum

Free but booking required.
Start the celebrations for the Year of the Snake during an evening of music, dance and friendship.
Lunar New Year is a festival celebrated across Asia, in countries such as Japan, South Korea and Vietnam, as well as China, and it’s always a highlight of the Museum calendar.
To reflect the diversity of this colourful celebration, our festivities will feature a range of exciting performances, from a lion dance, traditional Chinese dance and choirs to K-pop, C-pop and more. There will also be an acrobatics display, try-on costume sessions and activities for everyone to get stuck into throughout an evening packed full of joy and energy.
If you get peckish, you’ll be able to nibble on Malaysian and Taiwanese food, while enjoying a boba tea.

Celebrate Chinese New Year in Chinatown with live performances, stalls, a funfair, Manchester’s famous red lanterns and the city’s legendary Dragon Parade.

When – 2nd February 2025.
Celebrate the Year of the Snake with Manchester’s legendary Dragon Parade.
Follow the famous 175ft dragon through the city’s streets as it makes it way to Chinatown, accompanied by a parade featuring traditional Lion and Ribbon dances, Chinese Opera performers, 12 Zodiac animals and ancient army characters.

Chinese New Year Extravaganza, Stockport Plaza
When – 9th February 2025
the show brings back their 18 metre dragon that illuminates the stage to bring joy and blessings for the 2025 Lunar New Year.
The show also features their popular acts including cheerful lions, Britain’s best Kung Fu display, playful pandas, along with some new and exciting acts.
A family-friendly show full of colour, amazement and fun, it’s the perfect entertainment for all to enjoy on this auspicious occasion!

Chinese new year Cheshire 2025 events
Chinese new year celebrations Warrington Town Centre
When – 8th & 9th February 2025
This year’s programme will showcase a mix of traditional and modern performances, featuring Liverpool’s Hung Gar Kung Fu School presenting their lion and dragon dance, alongside a high energy martial arts demonstration.
Visitors can expect live music, K-Pop dance displays and an eye-catching performance from Movema Dance Company featuring the Feng Huang bird. Activities such as calligraphy workshops, face painting, QiGong sessions and arts and crafts will take place across Golden Square, Time Square, Warrington Market, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library.
On the Saturday, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library will host a family activity day from 11am to 2pm, where visitors can enjoy crafts, trails and refreshments in a relaxed setting.

Chinese New Year celebrations Macclesfield Town Centre

Get ready to welcome in the Year of the Snake!
Make some noise in the Market Place with the drums to ward off those evil spirits before welcoming in the Dragon to lead the parade. Follow the Zodiac animals down to Park Green for fun, food and education at the United Reformed Church and the Silk Museum.
