We had the pleasure of being invited to the preview evening of Cheshire’s newest Halloween light trail. Read on to find our Halloween Lakeside Light trail at Partridge lakes review. We visited for the preview evening in October 2023. I’ll include everything you need to know and the experience of our family visit. This is just one of the many fantastic Halloween events North West.

There are no local on road parking nearby. You can pre book car parking with your tickets for £5 or pay on the gate for £7.

You can visit the Halloween Lakeside Light Trail between the 2nd October and 31st October 2023.
Our visit to Halloween Lakeside light trail 2023
We were lucky enough to get tickets to the press preview night of the Halloween Lakeside light trail at Partridge lakes fishery. My children are 7 and 10 years old at the time of our visit. Neither of them are particularly fans of being scared but they both enjoyed this light trail. It is a little creepy/spooky but not scary and there are funny bits too (skeletons in rubber rings) and really randomly, Cinderella at the end of the trail!
The trail goes around the lake and there are lots of beautifully coloured lights around the lake, lighting up the trees. There are also projectors and lazer lights around the lake too. They are projecting bats and pumpkins on to the lake and trees.
There are lots of spook installations around the trail as well as the coloured lights. These installations are really well thought out and spooky, perfect for older children and tweens. I don’t mean that they are too scary for younger children though. There were plenty of young children enjoying the trail when we visited but this isn’t a “cute Halloween trail”.
I think there are 3 types of Halloween events, cute, spooky and scary. This event is definitely in the middle, spooky but not scary. There is no gore and nothing jumps out to try and scare you. It’s a great event to take mixed aged group children to. There’s a little bit of the creepy side of Halloween for older kids but this will go unnoticed by younger children.

Yes, the event is pram and wheel chair accessible.
Are dogs allowed to attend Halloween Lakeside Light trail?
Well behaved dogs are welcome. They must be on lead at all times, and must be friendly with children since this is a family friendly event.
How long does it take to complete the Halloween trail?
The event organisers say the trail should take approximately 1 hour. When we visited it took us half an hour to walk around but it was quieter than I expect it will be on your visit. I expect with queues to see installations or to use the photo opportunities, that it will take you nearer to an hour.
It’s a little over half a mile to walk all the way around the lake and the light trail. Perfect for all ages.
Food and drink at Halloween Lakeside Light trail
You can’t take your own food and drink with you but there are plenty of food and drink stalls as well as firepits for toasting marshmallows.
We purchased a stick of 3 large marshmallows and this was £4. With this we also got two digestives and an extra stick. There are 2 fires to toast your marshmallows on. My kids love doing this and I didn’t think £4 was too bad compared to other events.
There are a number of other food and drink stalls in two locations, just before the start of the trail (you can still go back to this at the end too) and a larger food area at the end. There is a good mix of savoury and sweet stalls.
How much does it cost to visit Halloween Lakeside Light Trail?
Tickets are £18 for adults (16+) and £14 for children (3-15 years), under 3s free. A family ticket (2 adults + 2 children) is £60.
Our top tips for a family evening to remember
- Dress for the weather. This is an outdoor event and this is October in the UK so don’t be surprised if it is wet or cold. Make sure you wrap up warm and wear appropriate footwear too. This is particularly important for young children as they’re far less likely to enjoy the event if they are cold or wet.
- Book a time slot appropriate for your kids. The younger they are, the earlier I’d book as young children will enjoy this trail far more if they’re not over tired.
- We visited on a wet evening and the trees do provide plenty of shelter as you walk around the lake. I’d recommend wearing wellies as it is already muddy in some places.
Our overall verdict
We loved our visit to this new Halloween light trail. If you’re looking for a Halloween event that is a little different then consider this event. It’s a good mix of pretty light trail and Halloween spooky installations. Don’t expect cute Halloween decorations but equally don’t worry about it being a scary event for teens and adults. This event sits comfortably in the middle of these two types of events.
