May half-term activities Lake District 2024
There’s so much to do in the Lake District for families. This is my guide to May half-term activities Lake District 2024. I’ve not found many events specifically for the school holidays, but I’m sure more will be released and I’m updating the post until the holidays start. This post is part of a series of posts on May half-term activities in North West. If you are close to one of the region’s borders, click through to see what else is on in the surrounding areas.

May madness at Walby farm park
When – 25th May – 2nd June 2024
Details – Daily foam party on top of the usual farm animals and play equipment.
Cost – Children – £12.95, Adults – £11.45

Gruffalo party trail, Grizedale Forest and Whinlatter Forest
For 2024, Forestry England has partnered with Magic Light Pictures to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Gruffalo by creating Gruffalo party trails in forests near you.
Cost – packs cost £4 each

Birdoswald Roman fort & kids rule!
When – 25th May to 2nd June 2024.
Have you ever wondered ‘what did the Romans do for us?’ Find out this half term when our very own Romans will be joining us. Listen to their epic tales and learn more about this world famous empire.
Cost – included in the admission cost. Free for English Heritage members

Medieval Muncaster, Muncaster Castle
When – 25th May to 2nd June 2024.
This year, our newly opened attraction The Weapons Hall takes centre stage as we celebrate all things Medieval!
Join knights, peasants, wizards and fools and be part of a festival for “The King of the North” to be proud of.
Choose a Medieval Passport Ticket for a full Medieval Activity day out!
Adult Medieval Passports include: Axe Throwing, Archery, Crossbow, Kit up like a Knight, First Knight Assault Course and Cook like a Peasant.
Children’s Medieval Passports include*: Jousting, Archery, Pewter Coin Making, Kit up like a Knight, First Knight Assault Course and Cook like a Peasant.
*Parents may need to assist younger children with some activities.
All Medieval Tickets include:
• Muncaster Birds, Play Areas & Gardens – We will have our daily bird shows and you will have access to the play areas and gardens.
• Laugh like a Fool – watch our Fools Shows that are sure to make you giggle. This is the continuation of our festival of fools with a medieval spin.
• The Storming of the Castle – The kids will be assembled at the bottom of the cannon bank, receive a war speech before racing to the top.
• Feast Like a King – We will have a couple of vendors alongside our café
• The ‘Fools Tavern’ and Dragon’s Head Bars with live music on some days

Build a boat activity, Windermere Jetty Museum
When – 25th may – 2nd June 2024.
Take inspiration from Windermere Jetty Museum’s collection and build your own model boat from recycled materials. Over the May half term, families are invited to flex their creative muscles to make their own cardboard creations using child-safe saws, screws and screwdrivers, designed by Makedo. Visitors’ creations will form part of a display in the museum’s Learning Centre throughout half term.

Animal arts and crafts, Wordsworth House and Garden
When – 25th May – 2nd June 2024.
Come along to Wordsworth House and get crafty and creative in the Discovery Room. Be inspired by our exhibition on British wildlife and make yourself something to take home.

May half term family fun, Allan Bank
When – 25th May – 2nd June 2024.
Enjoy traditional games on the lawn including croquet and tug of war, or head indoors to get crafty. Have a go at making your own seed bombs for your garden, you can add these eco-friendly seed balls to any area of your garden, to create a beautiful display and help to attract pollinators. Included with admission to the house.

Woodland Warrior Lasertag, Blaithwaite Country house estate
When – 26th May 2024.
Two whole hours of tactical combat adventure in the estate’s woodland.
Woodland warrior laser tag sessions are addictive, adrenaline-fuelled fun for all the family and suitable for anyone age 6 and over.
The experienced instructor will provide a full safety briefing at the start of your session and guide you on how to make the most of your session. Completely eye-safe and pain-free it’s a great way to let off steam and tire out little legs!

Peter Rabbit tea party, The world of Beatrix Potter
When – 25th, 26th, 28th May 2024.
Join Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit for a fun afternoon at the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction. Our very own Beatrix will read the wonderful Tale of Peter Rabbit, and the world’s most famous bunny will be available for selfies with all his fans! Every child will have their very own rabbit ears to colour in, plus a special gift to take away.
The event takes place in our Laundrama party venue which is just across from the Attraction on Rayrigg Road.
Your ticket includes:
- Entry to the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction on the day of the party
- Afternoon Tea (please advise us in advance of special dietary requirements) – see sample menu below which may be subject to change
- Storytime with Beatrix Potter followed by a short Peter Rabbit animation
- A gift for every child
- A photo opportunity with Peter Rabbit
We recommend you leave an hour to look around the Attraction on the day of the party (between 10 am and 5.30 pm). The party lasts around 60 minutes and a visit to the Attraction takes around 45-60 minutes.

Peter rabbit & Jemima sculpture painting, The world of Beatirx Potter
When – 27th, 31st May 2024.
Choose Jemima Puddle Duck or Peter Rabbit, grab a seat at our painting table and design and paint your own sculpture to take home.
Purchase your sculpture (£3) at the Box Office and have fun!

Plant a veggie to take home, The world of Beatirx Potter
When – 29th May 2024.
Enjoy planting veggie seeds in the Peter Rabbit garden. You can take your little pot home and look after it – watering it and planting it out in your garden when it grows.
Watch it, water it, and keep the rabbits and slugs away from it and you will be eating your greens this summer!
This is a free event for Children and is included in their entry ticket.

Sizergh’s spring bird challenge

This self-led family trail will take you out along the Holeslack accessible route, and you’ll collect clues along the way before crowning your winner.
