Ice skating is a fun way to spend time with your kids. I’ve rounded up all the places you can go ice skating North West. I’ve found some permanent ice rinks in most regions of North West England and also lots of temporary Christmas ice skating North West venues. Planet Ice Widnes is an indoor ice rink in Widnes that is open all year round. There are public skating sessions, lessons, birthday parties and regular events too.

This rink uses Wonder Ice SuperGlide, a specialist synthetic skating surface designed to give you a smooth and enjoyable skating experience — without the need for frozen water.

When: 29th & 30th November 2025
Where – indoor skate rink. Located between H&M and The Entertainer in Barons Quay
This is a realistic alternative to real ice rink.

Ice skating at Golden Square, Warrington – book soon for 2026
When: 7th November 2026 until 4th January 2027
Where: Old Market Square, Golden Square Shopping Centre, Warrington
The ice rink will be the headline attraction in Golden Square’s packed Christmas programme, with plenty more festive fun taking place throughout the season, such as a special visit from Father Christmas and choir performances throughout December.

Embark on a 45 minute ice-skating adventure and glide into the festive spirit on the shimmering ice rink, surrounded by festive cheer and sparkling lights. Skate under the stars with friends and family, before warming up with a cup of hot chocolate.
Tickets for ice skating and the Christmas fairground must be purchased separately. Ice skating tickets are £18.70 for everyone 13+ and £15.40 for children for a 45-minute ice skating session.

The ice rink at Blackpool pleasure beach is an indoor attraction that is open all year round. It is used for events and training sessions so you do need to check the timetable.

This is a real ice, outdoor skating rink open for the Christmas season.

Free synthetic ice rink, spanning 20 meters in length. No advance booking required. Can accommodate up to 60 skaters at once. Free skate hire including skate aids and disability aids.

This is a 60ft by 40ft real ice rink which is returning to the town centre as part of Chorley’s Winter Wonderland. There’ll also be children’s rides and Tipi.
