Eureka! Science + Discovery review
Have you visited Eureka! Liverpool? We love this science museum on the Wirral so read on for our Eureka! Science + Discovery review. I’d go as far as saying it’s one of the best science museums for kids in the North West. Find more great Family days out North West England here.

Where is Eureka! Science + Discovery?
Eureka! Science + discovery is at the Seacombe ferry terminal in Wallasey, Wirral.
The address is Seacombe Ferry Terminal, Victoria Place, Wirral, CH44 6QYÂ Â
There is a car park which in February 2025 the charges are £3.25 for 3 hours, £5.25 for 6 hours and £10.50 for 12 hours.
You can travel and arrive by ferry (and get 20% off your ferry with the Eureka booking) or use the 411 or 409 bus.
How much does it cost to visit Eureka! Science + Discovery?
You need to book your tickets in advance. All tickets are annual passes (unless you book with Tesco clubcard vouchers).
The admission costs as of February 2025 are:

- Children 3+ £15.95
- Children aged 1 & 2 £6.95
- Under 1s free
Children with a Blue Peter badge get in free too.
What age is Eureka! Science + Discovery suitable for?
Eureka! is designed for children up to 14 years old. There is a dedicated area for under 7s as well as plenty in the main galleries that they will also enjoy.
My children were 8 and 11 when we visited. They both loved our visit although our 11 year old got bored sooner than our 8 year old who probably would have taken us around the galleries for a fourth time. The 11 year old did enjoy it for a good few hours including the science show and workshop. There were some interactive exhibits in the galleries that she learnt more from than our 8 year old. It’s a great science museum for all ages in my opinion. The galleries are all so inviting and interactive for all ages.
How long too families typically spend at Eureka! Science + Discovery?
This was our first visit and we were there from 11am – 3pm. Our kids did take us through the three galleries 3 time! and we did the science show and science workshop (half an hour each). I suspect with an annual pass, second visits would be shorter but the science shows and workshops are always changing.
Facilities and accessibility at Eureka! Science + Discovery
You will find toilets on both floors of the museum. There is also a changing places in the ferry terminal and baby changing facilities in the burrow and on the first floor.
There is an indoor picnic area which has quite a few tables and sofas. It was busy on our visit but we got a space.
There are lifts to the first floor and there is plenty of space around exhibitions for wheelchair access. There is a chill out room if you need it and assistance dogs are welcome too.
Bodies gallery
This is the first gallery you come to on the ground floor and it is so colourful and inviting. It is filled with technology and interactive exhibits to teach children about the body in a really inviting way.
There are huge brains, lungs, gastrointestinal system and more. You learn so much about how the body works. There is a really great use of technology in this area with lots of videos, buttons to push, interactive games and more. Perfect for kids of all ages.
Nature gallery
This is another beautiful gallery filled with lots of tactile wooden elements. The theme is all about the natural world where you can learn about wildlife, weather and harnessing the power of wind and water to create energy.
At the centre of this gallery there is a very cool climbing tree for children to play in. This is beautifully designed and appears to be suspended over the ground floor entrance area.
There is also a beautiful theatre space which from the outside is a tactile curved wall and inside there are nature videos projected on to all the walls of the space. There are seats and bean bags where you can sit, relax and enjoy the stunning nature photography and films. It’s such a beautiful and calming space.
Home gallery
This area is all about the home, how things work and what it is made of. There are areas like the kitchen where you can step inside an oversized kettle and toaster. In the bathroom you can design your own toothpaste and packaging, you can learn how the toilet works and more. There’s also a giant cat flap for kids to go through!
The burrow (under 7s)
You need to book a visit to the Burrow on arrival at Eureka!
This area is designed for children under 7 but older siblings can accompany you. Although you need to book a visit to this area, your time in the burrow is no restricted. It’s up to you how long you spend.
There are toilets and baby changing facilities in the burrow. No food is allowed but you are encouraged to take drinks in with you for your child.
Here you can find soft play, climbing equipment, a slide, a building area and so much fun. There is a nature theme running through the gallery.
Science shows at Eureka! Science + Discovery
We saw a water science show during February half term delivered by an outside provider (Science Made Simple). It was a really fun 30 minute science show about water. The scientist delivering it was great with kids.
There was lots of fun, silly but educational experiments with water and lots of audience participation. I’m sure everyone left having learnt something in a fun and memorable way. My kids at 8 and 11 both really enjoyed it.
Science shows are included in your admission cost. There are different science shows each school holidays.
Workshops at Eureka! Science + Discovery
The Make Create gallery is a space where they usually have some kind of workshop on in school holidays particularly.
We joined in with one on our visit during their Hydro week in February half term. It was a half an hour session with too engaging instructors who gave some science information, demonstrated some fun water experiments and then encouraged the children to have a go at 3 activities themselves. My kids had great fun.
Workshops are included in your admission cost.
Discovery Cafe at Eureka! Science + Discovery
The Discovery cafe for Eureka! is in the adjoining building with the burrow and a community space. This building is also the Seacombe ferry terminal. There are also toilet facilities in this building too.
There are plenty of lunch and snack options to choose from at really reasonable prices. The photo below shows the menu when we visited in February 2025.
Our verdict
We loved our visit and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this science museum to you all. It’s filled with colourful and inviting exhibits that children can’t resist engaging with. On our visit we didn’t experience any exhibits that weren’t working.
My kids are notorious for rushing through spaces, partly so they can see what else there is but also because they loose interest. We went through all 3 galleries three times on our visit at their request! There was so much they wanted to keep going back to.
If you live near enough the annual pass means you can go back as much as you like and the science shows and workshops change each school holiday so I’m sure you’ll visit frequently.
One thing to mention is that on a Wednesday in February half term it did get very busy. We booked on the workshop and science show as soon as we arrived and I’m glad we did as the queues in the afternoon were very long.
