There’s so much on for kids in Lancashire these summer holidays so I’ve put together this guide to all the summer holiday activities Lancashire 2026. I’ve rounded up the best family days out, events and more in Lancashire. It’s part of a series of posts on Things to do with kids in the North West summer 2026.

Jurassic Adventures at Mrs Dowsons Farm Park – book now for 2026

The wizarding adventure at East Lancashire Railway – book now for 2026

It’s time to sign up to our spellbinding school of sorcery as you take a wacky and wonderful whistle stop tour of the Wizard Academy and learn to become a master of mystery and magic.
Your adventure includes a train ride from Bury to Rawtenstall and back, a roughly two-hour wizard experience with our madcap magicians, wizard themed activities and plenty of photo opportunities.

Day out with Thomas at East Lancashire Railway 2026
When – 18th – 19th July 2026.
Hop onboard for a ride behind Thomas, a REAL steam engine! Meet Diesel and say hello to Sir Topham Hatt. Watch the exciting live shows with Sodor Station Sweepers Rusty & Dusty and explore and have fun in the Thomas & Friends music corner.
Join in the Thomas & Friends character hunt, play with the Thomas & Friends garden games and listen to the Thomas & Friends storytelling sessions. Have fun in the Play Pod with the Thomas & Friends toys, arts and crafts. There will also be photo opportunities, 4 funfair rides, all suitable for toddlers, face painting (over 2 year’s old only) and learn how to make a musical instrument in the creative workshops. Peppa Pig Family Fun Day at East Lancashire Railway – book now for 2026
When – 22nd August 2026.
Come and meet Peppa Pig in the fantastic Bury Transport Museum at intervals on Saturday 22nd August 2026. Just pre-book your general admission ticket and pick a meet & greet slot that suits you.
With no additional cost to general admission, the family fun continues with a cracking fun fair with three rides suitable for toddlers, face painters, craft activities and even a petting farm so that you can meet some farmyard friends.
Complete your day out with a ride aboard one of our heritage trains through the Irwell Valley. Ticket Price includes a ride on any train services on the day of your visit – no need to book separately just pick a time that suits you on the day!

Summer of play at Rufford Old Hall – 2026 details

Enjoy outdoor games in the paddock, borrow sports day kit to play and picnic on the lawns and try some Victorian-style toys and games in the house.
Every day during summer opening times (Fri-Tues) enjoy an abundance of garden games and self-led activities.
Escape to the Orchard Paddock and take part in free sports activities including cricket, rounders, and croquet and giant games like snakes and ladders and dominos.
From the Bookshop you can collect a sports day kit box which includes instructions, skipping ropes, hoops, race markers, beanbags and more.

Living History Weekend, Samlesbury Hall, 2026

Blackpool Air Show 2026

The programme, which will be announced in due course, will showcase the very best in British aviation with an incredible line-up of amazing flying machines and some of the country’s most talented pilots.

Ridgeway Farm Maize Maze, Blackpool – limited details for 2026

The Maize Maze which features a special design of not 1 but 2 mazes, which you can try and navigate your way through, (1 maze is a smaller, easier maze, and the other, is a challenge for all the family).

Junior Archaeologists: Dig Pits, Clitheroe Castle Museum
When – 23rd July 2026.
Young archaeologists (age 7+) onto one of our kid’s workshops: Unearth and rebuild artefacts in our Dig Pit activity.
Each young archaeologist will receive their very own certificate to take away, too!
An alternative self-guided activity will be provided for younger children (under 7) accompanying children taking part.

Festival of Archaeology Community Hub Day 2026. Clitheroe Castle Museum
When – 25th July 2026.
Meet local archaeologists and experts who will be on hand to answer your questions and share their knowledge. There will be specialists in a range of eras from prehistory all the way to the industrial era, and in a variety of fields like artifact conservation and archaeological technologies.

Junior Archaeologists: Medieval Tile Pottery Workshop. Clitheroe Castle Museum.
When – 30th July 2026.
Book young experimental archaeologists (age 7+) onto one of our kid’s activities.
Have a play with some clay and roll-out and then decorate a tile in the medieval style in this pottery workshop. Each young archaeologist will take their tile home and receive their very own certificate to take away, too!

Junior Archaeologists: Neolithic Pottery Workshop. Clitheroe Castle Museum
When – 30th July 2026.
Book your young archaeologists (age 7+) onto one of our pottery workshops.
Discover the prehistoric past through pottery. Get messy with some clay and learn about the invention of pottery from thumb pots to coil pots. Look at designs and replicate using sticks, stamps and fingernails.
Each young archaeologist will take their coil pot home and receive their very own certificate to take away, too!

Dinoroar Children’s Competition Hunt, Clitheroe Castle Museum
When – 1st – 31st August 2026.
Young visitors can take part in a fun dinosaur museum hunt and enter a competition for a chance to win a goody bag of souvenirs from the museum shop. All children go free.
Children can also get creative with roar-some crafts. Build and decorate a wooden dinosaur to take home. A variety of designs are available. £3.00 per craft, with free dinosaur activity sheets and a cosy reading corner to enjoy.

A Day of Knights with the Silver School of Arms at Clitheroe Castle
When – 23rd August 2026.
Clitheroe Castle welcome back the Silver School of Arms – a historical European martial arts group who study European fighting arts.
Enjoy an exciting day of weapons handling and displays of sword fighting.
Demonstrations of medieval combat will take place between 11am and 3pm so why not drop into this free family friendly event and meet the experts.

Greene Fox Bushcraft Workshops – Brockholes

Choose from a fantastic range of workshops throughout the summer holidays, including Wild Play, Stone Age Bushcraft, Fire Lighting Skills, Whittling, Wild Cooking, Bushcraft Medicine, Wild Art and Minibeast Adventures. Activities vary by session and may include den building, campfire cooking, woodland crafts, nature art, bug hunting, shelter building, foraging and traditional bushcraft techniques.
Sessions range from 2 to 2.5 hours.

Alpaca Walk & Talk Experience, Brockholes Nature Reserve
When – 25th July – 23rd August 2026.
This is a guided 60-minute experience with Alpacas and includes a talk on the alpacas, feeding, photo opportunities plus an interactive session learning about alpaca fleece, how and why they are sheared, how it’s processed, what can be made from it and looking at samples of items made from our own alpaca’s fleeces. Then take the alpacas for a walk and have a question & answer session at the end!
Anyone walking an Alpaca on their own must be over the age of 10 years, under 16s must be accompanied by a paying adult, please note this is to comply with insurance and therefore cannot be varied.
£20.00 per person – Includes leading an alpaca. Tickets MUST be pre-booked in advance
£10 for Spectator Ticket. Spectator ticket allows you to walk alongside someone walking an alpaca, but not leading it.

Butterfly Walk at Mere Sands Wood

Join them for a guided walk through the reserve, focusing on spotting a wonderful variety of butterflies! They will walk at an easy pace, stopping at various points to appreciate these beautiful insects.

Kidz 4 Kidz All Stars. Lowther Pavilion
When – 25th July 2026.
Kidz 4 Kidz community theatre company was established in 2001 as a not-for-profit group. Run completely by volunteers, Kidz 4 Kidz has offered weekly rehearsals to children aged 4 to 18 for the past 22 years. Ticket sale profit from their shows goes to helping other children in need – hence the group’s name ‘Kidz’ doing something positive to help other ‘Kidz’. In the past they have bought wheelchairs, muscle strengthening equipment, sensory equipment, deaf loop systems, adapted car seats etc to help local families enable their children to live life to the full.

But whatever happened to Little Red Riding Hood? Did the Three Little Pigs go on to have a successful music career? And is the Wolf really as bad as he seems?
