Things to do in Liverpool summer holidays 2024

The summer holidays are almost here so it’s time to start thinking how we’ll keep the kids busy all summer. This post is filled with things to do in Liverpool in the summer holidays 2024. I’ve rounded up the best family days out and events in Liverpool this summer. Find more Things to do with kids in the North West summer 2024 here.

Summer festival at Otterspool Adventure – book now for 2024

When – 20th July – 1st September 2024.

Your ticket includes an outdoor foam party, indoor Disco, outdoor party games and all-day access to all the usual park activities.

Intrepid explorers, Knowsley Safari – book now for 2024

When – Monday to Friday each week of the holidays from 22nd July to 27th August 2024

Intrepid Explorers is a fun, lively and creative holiday programme for 8 to 10 year-olds, filled with a range of activities!

Explore the natural world and how to look after it, through numerous different games, crafts and messy activities. Each day, we do an awesome animal activity! These activities may include things such as meeting animal keepers, cleaning out enclosures or delivering a tasty treat to a variety of animals. Our Intrepid Explorers programme is over 5 days, Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Knowsley Feelgood Festival, Court Hey Park – 2024 details

When – 3rd August 2024.

There’ll be health and wellbeing activities for you to improve your health and wellbeing while having plenty of fun no matter what your energy levels are! You can take part in physical activities to get your heart pumping as well as calmer activities designed to relax and de-stress your mind which is just as important for your health.

Summer of play at Speke Hall – details for 2024

When – 22nd July – 29th August 2024.

With sports day activities, archery, wild art, football training, crafting fun,and more besides, there is something for everyone to enjoy at our Summer of Play.

With a changing programme of events throughout the summer, you’ll be sure to have a great time and make some happy memories at Speke Hall in our summer of play.

Come rain or shine join us for a summer filled with play and fun for all the family.

Liverpool Arab Arts festival – family day, Palm House Sefton Park 2024

When – 21st July 2024

Immerse yourself in a FREE afternoon of authentic Arab art, culture and community during this joyful celebration.

Featuring music and performance by leading musicians, Family Day also brings an array of creative workshops, mouthwatering cuisine and exciting children’s activities.

There will be over 20 stalls featuring authentic crafts, traders and so much more.

Craft club at Palm House Sefton Park 2024

When – 30th July, 20th August 2024

Join local artist, Rachel, to make and create with a spring twist. Everyone is welcome to join this artist led drop-in session as part of our family programme. Expect spring crafts and time to make under the palms.

Story time with Liverpool Libraries, Palm House Sefton Park 2024

When – 13th August 2024

Join us for story time with Irene from Liverpool libraries. Sharing stories and rhymes with children from a young age is great for their development and communication skills.

Story & rhyme time on the East Lawn, Sefton park 2024

When – 6th August 2024

Join the palm house team for story and rhyme time! Sharing stories and rhymes with children from a young age is great for their development and communication skills our team at the palm house have been leading these in house sessions and this one will take place out on the lawn in the lovely summer sunshine.

Teddy bears picnic, Sefton Park (Palm House) 2024

When – 27th August 2024

Bring your Teddies, your families and friends for a fun filled Teddy Bear’s Picnic. Join us on the grass surrounding the palm house for stories, songs and games

Prizes will be given for Best dressed Teddy and Best Teddy’s name. We love a bit of fancy dress too so a prize will be given to the best dressed bear owner!

*Please bring along your own rug, folding chairs and picnics to enjoy!

When – 1st -18th August 2024

You can expect jaw-dropping rides and amazing attractions all under one roof! We have assembled a great mix of children’s rides and large rides for all age groups to enjoy! Age and height restrictions apply.

Books and Brambles, The storybarn, Calderstone park 2024

When – 27th July – 31st August 2024

Set off with the Storyhunters to explore the wonder of Calderstones Park in the summer, share stories and get stuck into the great outdoors with imaginative play, arts and crafts. 

Each child will receive a Storybarn Passport at the first session they attend and if they collect four or more stamps (one stamp for each session they attend) they will receive their own Books and Brambles badge!   

This adventure takes place around the park so don’t forget your sun cream or welly boots.

Meet your Storyhunter outside of the Storybarn. 

Best suited for 4-9 year olds, younger siblings welcome.

When – 24th August 2024

Have you ever wondered what animals lived in the Stone Age? Curious about the past? 

Dive with us into the past to the land of sabretooth tigers and big woolly mammoths the Stone Age. 

In this session we’ll meet a real archaeologist and journey back in time. There’ll be stone age, bones to wonder at and we’ll share stories before creating our own prehistoric animal masks.

Big bright feelings, The storybarn 2024

When – 23rd August – 1st September 2024

Jump into the colourful world of Tom Percival’s Big Bright Feelings books.  

We’ll be trying to figure out what is Ruby’s worry? Who is Milo’s monster? and what’s Finn fibbing about? Together we’ll explore our emotions through imaginative play, stories and craft.

Calderstones beach and fun fair, Calderstones park 2024

When – 20th July – 1st September 2024.

No pre-booking is required, £1 entry per person this includes the use of the beach, deck chairs, toilet facilities and Tuesdays and Thursdays Barry’s Discos and character days.

Ride prices all rides big and small are 1 token each

Daily special – 10 ride tokens for £25 (making rides 2.50 each)

Super saver deal -30 rides tokens £60 (making rides only £2 each)

Tokens are valid any time over the summer holidays.

The Autism and Disability friendly – children’s sessions will be every Wednesday with times changing each week either 10.30-12.30 or 4-6pm this year, due to the weather and sometimes we need to re schedule, tickets will be available on a weekly basis unless we need to carry them forward should we need to cancel! Hopefully not and we are getting lots of sunny days.

Tickets will be available next week for the first Wednesday 24th July 4-6pm.

The leaving of Liverpool, Maritime Museum

When – 29th July, 26th August 2023.

Liverpool has played an important role as the port of departure for millions of people seeking new lives.

Travel back in time to Liverpool 1854 and meet our travellers on their way to a new land.  Listen to their stories of tales of hope and fear, as our roleplayers bring to life the stories of emigrants who came through the port.

Free Make it! craft workshop, The Atkinson 2024

When – 1st, 15th, 17th, 24th, 31st August 2024

Be inspired by the museum, gallery and theatre programme in an arts and crafts workshop suitable for all the family. There’s something for all ages, with all materials supplied and all for free!

Drop-in any time between 11am – 3pm and get creative.

Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult.

Young curators summer sessions, The Atkinson 2024

When – 9th August 2024.

In these free summer sessions, you will work with industry professionals to develop your creative skills and understanding of museum collections. Across the 4-week programme, you will get hands-on experience working with The Atkinson’s own collections. You will learn life skills such as evaluation techniques, teamwork practices and gain workplace experience.

The boy king, The Atkinson 2024

When – 20th July 2024.

An autobiographical, vibrant and educational one man show celebrating 100 years since the discovery of Tutenkhamun’s Tomb. Get to know The Boy King, the team who excavated his tomb and Jordan – A boy whose love of history transformed his life growing up with Autism.

Packed with playful characters, fun and facts, this relaxed performance is perfect for families, lovers of history and Neurodivergent audiences.

Reynard the fox, The Fabularium at Calderstone park 2024

When – 20th August 2024

eynard is the woodlands’ most infamous scoundrel who prides himself on being the trickster of the forest. But when the Woodland Court announces the theft of the King’s Crown Jewels, the animal kingdom immediately blame the fox. Will the gift of his silver tongue be enough to save his tail? 
 
Expect storytelling, puppetry and original live music as the festival favourites capture imaginations with their beautifully intricate set and stunning animal headpieces.
