Blue sky, campsite with beach beyond and text that reads Gibraltar farm campsite review

Gibraltar farm campsite review

It’s been a while since we’ve camped on a big campsite. We generally book small 5 van sites but we really wanted to visit Silverdale and Arnside on the Lancashire coast and Gibraltar farm came up as the place to camp. We spent 4 nights here and loved our stay. Read on to find my Gibraltar farm campsite review and find out why we’ll be coming back. Find the best Family days out North West England here.

Where is Gibraltar farm?

Gibraltar farm is located just outside the village of Silverdale on the Lancashire coast. The area of Silverdale and Arnside has been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty and it’s not hard to see why.

The campsite is part of a working farm and has direct access to the beach which is a very short walk away (through a couple of small fields).

The camp site address is Gibraltar farm campsite, Jenny Browns point, Silverdale, LA5 0UA. They have directions on their website because sat nav can be unreliable in this area.

Why we love Gibraltar farm

We loved our 4 nights at Gibraltar farm. We stayed in may 2023 over the bank holiday weekend/school holidays.

It was busy over the bank holiday weekend but not uncomfortably so. We love how close the campsite is to the beach, the village and to some lovely walks too. It was the perfect spot for us to explore the area.

As soon as you drive around the back of the farm buildings you can see the campsite below and the bay and sea behind that. The views are stunning!

There is an ice cream hut serving delicious ice cream made on the farm from the heard of dairy cows. You can also buy their raw milk. They only open on weekend afternoons.

Facilities at Gibraltar farm

Gibraltar farm has all the facilities you need to enjoy your camping trip. The toilet block has male and female shower rooms and toilets, a washing up area and a washer and dryer for your laundry. We always found the area clean, the water hot and not much of a wait to use them. What more could you ask for?

Pitches at Gibraltar farm

There are a mix of grass and hard standing pitches to choose from.

Some of the hard standing pitches have touring caravans on a seasonal basis so the site can look busier than it is if these aren’t all occupied at all times.

Caravans on hard standing pitches

There are a mixture of open grassland fields, a small woodland area and rows of hardstanding pitches.

Tents around the edge of a field

Some areas are only suitable for tents and small campervan. The hardstanding pitches are suitable for caravans and motorhomes. Electric hook up is available for caravans and motorhomes on hardstanding pitches.

It’s worth noting, access to the campsite is town a steep an twisting road.

Walks from Gibraltar farm camp site

This is definitely a key feature for us. There are areas of ancient woodland nearby for walks including a circular, 2 mile walk to Jenny browns point.

Silverdale village centre is only a short drive or walk away. You can do a lovely circular walk by following the path down to the beach, turn right and walk along the beach to Silverdale village (there is a lovely beer garden at the Silverdale hotel) and then walking back up Lindeth road to the campsite.

You can also walk along the beach in the other direction to Jenny Browns point. It’s worth noting that the beach is not a sandy beach for building castles, the sand is quiet clay like. It does make it good for walking along. Please check the tidy time before any beach walks as it does come in fast.

It has to be one of the best coastal campsite that we have stayed on for walks straight from the campsite.

Things to do near Gibraltar farm

There is so much to do in the surrounding area as well as the walks you can do right from the campsite.

The picturesque village of Silverdale is worth a wander around. It’s not very big but there is a small grocery store, a couple of pubs and restaurants.

There is a tea room (Wolf house cafe), just across the road from the campsite on the corner of Hollins Lane. It has a lovely outdoor seating area and a great selection of cakes.

Wide path with wooden hut on the left

There are many more walking routes, a short drive from the campsite such as Arnside tower, the fairy steps and Eaves wood nature reserve.

We also took a trip to Arnside and enjoyed the beach and slightly larger village.

You’re only a short drive from The Lakeland Wildlife Oasis if you fancy a day out with wild animals!
