Billy Bob’s Preston

Did you know we have a Billy Bob’s Parlour in the North West? I’d heard of the one in North Yorkshire so I was very excited to hear about Billy Bob’s Preston. If you’re not familiar with Billy Bob’s parlours then you’re in for a treat. They are ice cream parlours, 50s American diners and they have amazing kids’ play areas too. Read on to find out everything you need to know about Billy Bob’s Myerscough (Preston, a little north of the city). Find more family days out North West England here.

What to expect at Billy Bob’s Preston

Billy Bob’s is one of the best places we have taken the kids in a while. It felt like a real treat for them. We had ice cream sundaes on a sunny Saturday afternoon followed by an hour playing in the amazing kids’ play areas. My girls didn’t want to leave!

Where is Billy Bob’s Preston?

Billy Bob’s is located north of Preston city centre, in Barton.

The full address is:

North Planks farm, Garstang rd, Barton, Preston, PR3 5AD.

There is a bus stop right outside too.

Parking at Billy Bob’s Myerscough

There is loads of free parking for customers of Billy Bobs but you can arrive by bus too.

Billy Bob’s ice cream parlour

The ice cream parlour at Billy Bobs has to be one of the best places to take kids for a treat ice cream or dessert. Yes, they do other desserts as well as ice creams (although I can highly recommend the ice cream sundaes).

They have about 30 flavours of homemade ice cream with some really unique ones like Key lime pie and rainbow sherbet. They also have classics like vanilla and mint chocolate chip. They also sell waffles and pancake stacks as well as ice cream floats (who remembers those?).

On our visit, myself and my husband shared a rocky mint road sundae and the kids had a Billy Bob’s bubbly sundae each. We all loved them.

There is also Billy Bob’s Diner where you can enjoy a traditional American diner experience. The menu is full of American classics like burgers, harvest dogs and smokehouse classics too. We didn’t eat in the diner but the food looked good and there is a really fun yellow school bus in there which seemed to be full of kids having fun.

Play at Billy Bob’s

The play areas at Billy Bobs are amazing! There is a large outdoor play area and an indoor play barn. You do need to pay £3 per child per hour to use them. They recommend booking in advance but we were really lucky to get the kids straight in after we had our sundaes. We did have to show proof of eating in the ice cream parlour to get them in though.

If you book to eat in the diner you are guaranteed play. If you just want to eat in the ice cream parlour (and play) you can book online for weekends and school holidays.

Indoor play barn

The indoor barn is design for tots to teens. I would say the majority of this area is aimed at older children. There is a sack slide that younger children will enjoy but the rest is definety suited to bigger kids.

It’s a huge barn and my kids loved it. It’s a massive space filled with play equipment and hay bales to walk and climb on. The floor is also covered in a really thick layer of hay too.

My kids enjoyed the sack slide, although they found it a little slow. Their favourite parts were the zip wire and foam pit though. They probably would have played the whole hour here.

There are also loads of rope swings that are popular with tweens and teens and a bucking barrel too. There is seating for parent around the edges of the barn too.

Outdoor play area

The outdoor play area is also huge with loads of wooden climbing frames with slides on as well as some swings down one side. The area is enclosed by a low fence and there is plenty of seating inside the play area for adults as well as in the courtyard either side of the play area.

All the wooden sculptures are themed around mostly American vehicles and farms, although there is also a large arc and castle. It’s aimed at children 9 and under although my just turned 10 year old still enjoyed a lot of the play structures. There are some aimed at smaller children too though.

There is a hut serving drinks and snacks in this area and you are asked not to bring your own picnics. The toilets are easily accessible from the play area.

Parties at Billy Bob’s Lancashire

There are some really cute birthday party, two-story houses overlooking the play area and they have a small private garden. They look like an amazing party location in Lancashire. My 7 year old wanted her party here but it’s too far away for us.

Facilities at Billy Bob’s Preston

There are toilet facilities including baby changing available on site. They are clean and very practical, clearly designed with families in mind.

What age is Billy Bob’s suitable for?

The outdoor play areas are aimed at children 9 and under and the play barn is suitable for tots to teens. Kids of all ages will enjoy the parlour and diner.

My own children at the time of our visit were 10 and 7. They loved the whole experience. Our eldest had only recently turned 10 and still enjoyed most of the outdoor play area. There are plenty of bigger slides and climbing frames. Both children loved the indoor barn too and the kids’ ice cream sundaes.

Are dogs allowed at Billy Bob’s Preston?

Yes, they are but only on leads and in outdoor seating areas (not in the play areas). The outdoor seating where dogs are allowed is just the other side of the low fence enclosed play area.

How long do families typically spend at Billy Bob’s Preston?

We were at Billy Bob’s for about 2 hours. The kids were in the play area for a little over an hour and we had ice creams before. You will be there longer if you have a full meal in the diner.
